A Letter From NASCAIR Owner, David Drew
I am very proud of NASCAIR, the employees, and customers God has placed near me. I appreciate you taking a moment to learn about NASCAIR, where we came from and how we earned so many loyal customers over a short 20-year period. I believe it is vital to know who you are doing business with and who you are letting into your safest place—your home. After serving in the U.S. Air Force for 12 years, I left without any practical, applicable trade skills. I dealt with munitions. One of my AF buddies suggested back in ’94 that I enter the heating and air conditioning industry, knowing I loved working on anything mechanical and really loved the feeling of accomplishment when it was fixed. In 1995, I started working for Milner Airco in Pineville, NC, and I never looked back. It was peas and carrots. It was here where I met Jay Miller, a man I admired. He knew his craft, and we became friends.
For the next 9 years, while living in Steele Creek, I learned my trade and, out of necessity, had to get my own license because the company I was working for was not doing well. In April of 2004, after a year of preparing, scribbling, drawing, and scrimping, Jay Miller and I started North and South Carolina Air (NASCAIR). Even though we were two men and a truck, we did not project or act like two men and a truck. We wore uniforms, had a freshly painted, logoed van, and had every required insurance.
As NASCAIR grew and tumbled through the housing crisis of 2008 through 2010, we came through the other side struggling and banged up. However, through the grace of God, we eventually gained solid footing. In 2010, Michael Thiessen joined NASCAIR. Michael’s strong suit, besides project management, is his moral compass, integrity, loyalty to the customers, and NASCAIR. Michael has been a lifeline for me during hard times. He never gives up. In 2020, Michael earned a partnership in NASCAIR. He is the operations manager, ensuring the scheduling, coordination, acquisition of equipment, and installation of every replacement job.
The most recent piece of the puzzle is Kirby Overby, an Air Force veteran, a previous boss of mine, and a man who has 35 years of hard residential HVAC knowledge. Kirby is our CFO, shares operations management with Michael, and is the lead sales consultant. Due to Kirby’s extensive understanding of our industry, he is highly regarded by all vendors, manufacturer reps, competitors he has worked for, and he is HVAC licensed in South Carolina and North Carolina.
One last mention, our lead installer, Santos Espino Sanchez, has been with NASCAIR since 2004. He is such an important part of the soul of NASCAIR. His craftsmanship is unmatched, his smile contagious, his vibrancy soothing, and he is an incredible father. NASCAIR may be my idea, but it does not belong to me. The people parts that make up NASCAIR have taken ownership of this company, and their stock is our valuable customers.
